Hello, Anonymous Internet People!
So, this blog is going to be T.M.I. for most of you. Turn back now. This might also get deleted in like, a day. Maybe.
Anyways, for those brave/curious souls who want to know what I’m talking about, my Acting I class had an assignment: Pick someone who really GETS to you, drives you nuts, leaves you completely befuzzled or ANGRY, and figure out their motive in life. (And also why they bother you so much – that’s the self reflective part.) Everyone is, after all, human (until we can prove otherwise) and we all have the same base needs: food, water, shelter, love. Do your best to figure out what their driving motives are.
I chose one of my high school teachers.(Ironically, the majority of the class chose teachers as well. Not with the same perspective as me though.)
Typical of me, I chose to go above and beyond and pick the person who would be the absolute MOST difficult person I could think of. I chose the teacher who sexually abused me in high school. I had a hell of a lot of difficulty with this assignment. After thinking about it a while, the only new insight I was able to draw was that he was supremely lacking in confidence in himself, since his family is all very successful (his sister lives in the rich neighborhood off of Bulter, his parents in another rich neighborhood, and he lived in Sunnyside), and was therefore drawn to prey on girls he could manipulate, in turn making him feel better about himself since he was able to seduce about 15 very pretty high school age (14-17 years old) girls. Perhaps it is also a power issue for him as well, since sexual abuse is usually about power and not about the women. He had us all completely brainwashed into thinking this was OK, acceptable, we were the only one, and that he loved us, and he manipulated us into doing WHATEVER he wanted. I don't think either of these are the true root of it, however like I said this assignment is incredibly difficult for me.
Here’s where you, the brave anonymous reader, come into play. What insight can you find into what would lead a man, who teaches honor and respect in his martial arts class, to do something like this?
I would appreciate any insight you have into this!
His background: 35 years old, white male, about 5'7, lean/muscular, grew up in Oklahoma, his family moved back to Flagstaff when he was in high school. His family has ties to the original settlers here, town sheriff or something, and is very influential within the town to this day. He went to CHS, his family is Christian, Catholic I think, he went to college at NAU and received a diploma to teach at the high school level. He married a Native American female martial arts student of his who was around the same age (before he had martial arts in the high school), and had one male child by her, however they got a divorce by the time the boy was 5 years old. After that, he started dating another teacher at CHS. He studied martial arts from the time that he was a small child, the school that he studied at was passed down to him when his teacher grew too old, and his dream was to be the first person to teach martial arts in a public high school, (Chuck Norris started one in an inner city school in Chicago after him. Before that, there were only private schools to learn martial arts as a part of the curriculum I think.) which he accomplished at CHS. He taught there for about 8 years, helped many students get through issues from math problems to low self confidence to drug addictions, and seduced somewhere between 5(that I know personally)-15(this number I heard from his best friend, who testified against him) high school age girls within that time frame, before he got arrested and sent to prison on the testimony of three of these students, myself being one of them.
So! Any ideas or insight? I could understand maybe falling in love with one of your students, but this goes WAY beyond that. You don't 'fall in love' with 15 of your students, 'dating' at least 4 of them at the same time. I don't understand what would cause this, but perhaps I am seeing it from too close of a distance to be able to see the larger picture. I would appreciate any ideas you might have into this!
Has anyone out there had a similar experience? Want someone to talk to? I'm here!
